This is a guide to some basic governmental statistical compilations for a variety of subjects. Under each topic, you will first find a list of specific titles available in print &/or via the web. (To see whether these are available in your library's catalog and ask for assistance at the Reference or Government Information desks if you do not find ehat you need.) Next are links to websites which have or link to substantial governmental statistical information on that topic.

American Statistics Index (ASI) The main index to statistical resources published by the U.S. federal government, ASI indexes statistical compendia (like Agricultural Statistics: mainly statistics, little text), as well as articles and books published by the federal government that contain statistical data. Good places to begin a search for statistics are the U.S. and California statistical abstracts. These are not only valuable for the tables they contain, but also act as an index to statistical publications because they give the source of the statistics they report.
