| Dr. Harald Otto Schweizer - B.S. in Criminal Justice (State
University College of New York-Buffalo), M.P.A. (University of Arizona),
Ph.D. in Criminal Justice (Sam Houston State University) 1990. Extensive
Law Enforcement experience in the United States as a Deputy Sheriff,
Police Officer, Field Training Officer, Detective, Dr. Schweizer is also a police consultant and has been an expert witness in federal court in the area of police administration and police misconduct. His research interests are in international criminal justice and policing, to include international criminal laws and minimum hiring and training standards for police officers. Dr. Schweizer has lectured at Police Academies and academic institutions in Finland, Germany, South Africa, Japan, and Slovenia. He is published in Singapore, Poland, Japan, Slovenia, and the United States. Dr. Schweizer has presented research at international conferences and also in some of his publications, on diverse subjects such as Female Suicide Bombers, Financial Crimes, International Organized Crime, Islamic Terrorist Groups, the Use of the Internet by Criminal Justice Organizations World-Wide, Problems in Selecting and Hiring Police Applicants, and he is currently doing research on Suicide Bombers and Radical Islam. In spring 2006 Dr. Schweizer was selected as an academic fellow by the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD). As part of the fellowship Dr. Schweizer visited various security/military related installations in Israel during the summer of 2006, and attended briefings by government experts on terrorism and the Middle East. Part of the visit included a meeting with representatives of Hamas and Fatah incarcerated in a high security prison facility. In July 2006 Dr. Schweizer gave a 6 hour presentation on Islamic Terrorism to government officials and others, at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. The presentation was sponsored by the Bund deutscher Kriminalbeamter (BDK) and the Faculty of Law of Humboldt University. Dr. Schweizer continues to assist law enforcement agencies at the local and regional levels, uses his investigative expertise to assist in criminal investigations at the international level, and is a consultant for the National Institute of Justice, the research arm of the U.S. Department of Justice . Dr. Schweizer holds various levels of peace officer certification in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, including a police instructor license for the state of Texas. Dr. Schweizer previously taught criminal justice at the University of Central Oklahoma, and reached the rank of tenured full professor, before coming to Fresno. |
