Finding Books

How to Request Books and Journals Stored Off-Campus
Most books and all bound journals are stored off-campus. You can request specific items be delivered to the library via the library catalog.

Library Catalog
Search the Library catalog to find books, journal titles (not articles), and other material in the Madden Library.
Keyword Searching (to search some "key" words in the title, author, and/or subjects)
    for example:   price supports and dairy
Use * for alternate word endings:
    e.g., diet* retrieves diet, diets, dietary, etc.
Use the pull-down menu to specify subjects, titles or authors.
    e.g., title dietary reference intakes

To search for Fresno State theses:
search by keyword for: thesis fresno [word from department name]
e.g.,   thesis fresno animal
Finding Articles etc.
The Library might have the articles and books you find through these indexes that are not full-text:
Journal Articles
    · Follow the Madden ArtlcleLink that appears in the 1st two databases listed below.
    · If Madden ArticleLink doesn't find it, check the title of the journal in the library catalog.
Books
    · If the MaddenArticleLink doesn't work, check the book title in the library catalog
    · If you don't find a government publication in the catalog, ask at the Maps & Government Information desk on the 2nd floor.
If the Library doesn't have it
    · Request the item via our Interlibrary Loan service.

Now Available! FSTA: Food Science and Technology Abstracts   (1969-     )
International coverage of food science, food technology and nutrition. Covers all the major food commodities, biotechnology and microbiology, as well as food safety, additives, nutrition, packaging and pet foods. International coverage of academic books, peer-reviewed journals, technical reports, bulletins and conference proceedings on topics related to agricultural economics, natural resources conservation and management, agriculture, food science, nutrition, recreation and tourism.
· Click on CAB Abstracts, then on Search to select the database.

CINAHL Plus  (1982-    )
Off-campus connection requires login.
Nursing and allied health literature.

PubMed
U.S. National Library of Medicine database that includes over 17 million citations from MEDLINE and other life science journals for biomedical articles back to the 1950s. PubMed includes links to some open-source full text articles and other related resources.
· Does NOT automatically have Madden LibraryLinks to our journal databases and catalog. To set this up:
  1.   Register, then sign in to your own NCBI account
  2.   Click on My NCBI
  3.   Click on Outside Tool (under My NCBI Resources)
  4.   Select California State University Fresno
This selection stays with your account until you change it, but you need to login every time you go into PubMed.

International Bibliographic Information on Dietary Supplements (IBIDS)
Journal article citations and abstracts from published, international, and scientific literature on dietary supplements. Contains citations also found in AGRIS International, AGRICOLA, MEDLINE, and selected nutrition journals from CAB Abstracts and CAB Health.
