Test 2 Fall 2004
Chapter 3

Hi you students you. We have a test coming up on October 15. Do not treat this lightly and do not wait until the last minute.

We have our second big test on Friday Oct 18. The test will have several problems that involve finding derivatives using the formulas in 3.3, 3.5, and 3.6. Please practice finding derivatives using the formulas in section 3.3, 3.5 and 3.6. There should be one problem on finding a derivative using the limit and several find the derivative problems using formulas. Possibly any of the following: one position-velocity problem, a higher order derivative problem, a find the tangent line to the curve problem.

Sec. 3.1 and 3.2 Be able to find a derivative using the limit definition on page 134 formula 2. Problems page 145 # 19 - 29.

Sec. 3.3 Memorize and be able to use all of the boxed formulas. Problems pages 156 - 154 # 1 - 20, 23 - 42. Be able to find the equation of the tangent line. Problems page 155 # 51 - 54.

Sec. 3.4 You may have one of the position-velocity type problems. Problems page 166 # 1 – 6, 8 - 10.

Sec. 3.5 Memorize and be able to use the formulas for the derivatives of trig functions. Be able to find the equation of the tangent line to a curve involving these functions. Problems pages 174 - 175 # 1 - 16, 17 - 19, 21 - 24. Be able to compute limits involving trig functions. Page 175 # 35 – 44.

Sec. 3.6 Be able to state and use the chain rule. Problems pages 181 - 184 # 1 – 6, 7 - 42, 43 - 46.

Sec. 3.7 will not be on this test.

Sec. 3.8 Be able to find second, third, fourth, etc. derivatives. Problems page 195 # 5 - 20, 23, 24, 33 - 37.

Study.

You will have problems almost identical to the quiz. You can use calculators. Good Luck and try to remain calm. Come up and ask me questions if you think you might be confused. Rehearse, rehearse, and rehearse.
