NOTES FROM THE WEBMASTER ON FREQUENT PROBLEMS:

(1) When the computer asks you for the user name and the password, make sure you fill out BOTH boxes using only lower case characters before clicking OK. (IN OTHER WORDS: After you type in the username, don't hit the enter or return key. Instead you hit the tab key or use your mouse to get to the password box. After both fields are filled in, click on the OK button)

(2) If you have the following problem: You bring up a copy of the home page, but new information posted to the page does not appear, THEN your computer is looking at the website as it was in the past and is not getting the latest copy off of the web.

Corrective measures:

A. First, try hitting the Reload key or the Refresh key.

B. If that didn't work, try a SUPERRELOAD. In general, I found that for Netscape on a PC, use Shift+Reload to force a reload from the server (that is hold down the Shift key and while you continue to hold it down press the Reload key). On a Mac it is Option+Reload (that is hold down the Option key and while you continue to hold it down press the Reload key). Note some machines call it Refresh instead of Reload.

C. If that doesn't work, go to your browser (usually Netscape or Internet Explorer), then find the Network Preferences (or History), and within that find Cache and perform the following operation: "Clear the Disk Cache Now." to eliminate all previous visits to the website.

D. There is a website with a nice summary of cache clearing in various versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator:

Cache clearing

E. STILL having problems. Perhaps you have purchased a special service from your Internet Service Provider. It manages your browsing and it caches frequently accessed webpages -- your favorite sites — for you. In that case, even a SUPERRELOAD won't do the trick. You have to wait until the ISP server cache is cleared. In that case, you will have to contact your ISP and ask for either more frequent cache clearing or to keep the CSUF websites off the cache list — if that is possible.
