First draft of research paper. This should be a
description of your work done to date. Future directions should
describe planned work for the remainder of the semester (and possibly
other avenues that could be explored beyond the semester's end).
Please make three copies of your paper, one for me and one for each
of two classmates who will review your paper.
- Due 10-31-05: First research talk.
Notice the change in due date
- Due 11-16-05:
Do Exercise 1 on p. 126. For this problem, in addition
to finding the stationary points and analyzing their stability, use
Maple to find and plot the solutions to the system; also use Maple to
analyze the stability of the stationary points.
- Due 11-30-05:
Advanced draft of research paper. This should incorporate new results
(and/or information) obtained since the last draft of the paper. It
should also incorporate improvements in response to feedback obtained
from both the instructor and the peer referees.
- Due 12-07-05:
Posters for the poster session. The poster should consist of 12 sheets of
paper, whose outline will be similar to that of your presentations. One
sheet of paper may simply contain the title of your project, your name,
and the date. The remaining 11 pages must contain a description of your
work, starting with an abstract (summary and motivation of your work) and
concluding with future directions and conclusions. See the main class web
page for the pages for a sample poster and some other words of advice.
- Due 12-14-05: Final paper and final
presentation. The final paper will be the final draft of your paper. It
should incorporate any new results (and/or information) obtained since the
last draft of the paper. It should also incorporate improvements in response
to feedback obtained from the instructor and the peer referees.
The final
presentation will be a 10 minute presentation summarizing your research
and your results. Remember to dress professionally for the final presentation.
Your dress should be "business casual."
At the time you submit your final paper, you should also
submit a disk containing your past work (presentations, previous drafts of
the paper (if you have them), etc.). You should also give the instructor
any papers that you have used as a reference that you think might aid the
instructor in grading your final papers.
