EXAMPLES OF REIMBURSEMENTS
Law Enforcement Commission
Those selected to fill police officer positions who are not yet
certified will be sent to an approved academy. All new hires will not be commissioned,
will not have arrest powers nor any other authority given to "Peace Officers"
or "Police Officers" as defined by the Colorado Revised Statutes,
until successful completion of the academy and satisfaction of all of the requirements
of the State of Colorado Police Officer Standards and Training Board and of
the Boulder Police Department.
The costs associated with sending individuals to a police academy
and equiping them (including tuition, books and uniform) will be considered
a loan to be paid off by successful completion of three years of service. Any
individual who fails to successfully complete this commitment shall be expected
to reimburse the Boulder Police Department for these costs proportionate to
the length of service. An individual who fails to successfully complete
one year of service shall be expected to reimburse the department for
100% of the costs; one to two years, 66% of the costs; two to three years, 33%
of the costs; three or more years, 0%.*

Agreement for Reimbursement
During the selection process, applicants will be asked to sign
an Agreement for Reimbursement (3 pages - pdf format), in which the applicant
agrees to reimburse the Department of Natural Resources for some expenses unless
the applicant remains in employment as a CPO Trainee/CPO for at least 36 months.

New Berlin Police Department Hiring Protocols: Lateral Hire, Consortium Testing and the Cadet Program
The new LATERAL HIRE/LATERAL ENTRY program is open to all sworn law enforcement officers who have at least two years of experience. Interested officers may apply at anytime by acquiring an APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER at the New Berlin Police Department, or by downloading the application from our web page. The completed application must be returned directly to the New Berlin Police Department Chief of Police, together with a nonrefundable application fee of $300 - checks should be made payable to "THE CITY OF NEW BERLIN". Further processing by the New Berlin Police and Fire Commission is required. Officers hired under this protocol will receive a salary compensation and vacation package commensurate with their prior years of service and consistent with the current labor Agreement in that regard. Seniority will not transfer.
Citizens and officers may also apply for employment with the
New Berlin Police Department by applying through the WAUKESHA COUNTY MUNICIPAL
LAW ENFORCEMENT RECRUITMENT ASSOCIATION. This organization typically conducts
one testing processing the spring of each year, and another testing process
in the fall. Successful candidates are put on qualified lists for Brookfield,
Elm Grove, Hartland, New Berlin, Pewaukee, and Big Bend Police Departments.
Further processing by the New Berlin Police and Fire Commission is required
before candidates are placed on our eligibility list. Application fees
are around $15-$20 and checks should be made payable as per WCMLERA
instructions. WCMLERA advertises each test, and the APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT
AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER is available at all of these police departments
during recruiting efforts, or it may be downloaded from our web page.
