Math 152 Home Page and Selected Course Materials

This is the home page for Math 152, Fall 2005. Click here to go to the syllabus. NOTE: If updates to the syllabus become necessary, I will announce any changes in class. These changes override any information contained in the above syllabus. You are responsible for obtaining the most up-to-date information.
Here you will also find downloadable course documents, such as handouts, worksheets, homework lists, exams, and exam solutions as they become available. Some of these documents are in ".pdf" format. In order to view and print them, you will need a pdf viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. Most Fresno State computers have it. To get a free copy, click here. If you are having difficulty downloading the documents, it sometimes helps to save the files to disk and then open them in your .pdf reader rather than having the browser open them for you. Please let me know if you have any trouble reading them.

News and Notes -- Last update 12/13 [Skip to new postings]

  • Old news from August through October
  • 11/3 (1): As announced in class and on the syllabus we are having our second MIDTERM in class on Friday, November 11. There is a review sheet available above. It tells what sections are covered and gives some practice problems and some hints for what to study. You are urged to take it seriously and go through it item by item and make sure you are fully prepared. Please see me if you have any questions or concerns.
  • 11/3 (2): Next Thursday the problem session is extended to two hours to allow for extra time for questions before the exam. It will be in the usual location (PB 390) from 4 to 6 pm. I hope to see you all there. Good luck studying for the midterm!
  • 11/22 (1): Finally! I have at last compiled the current grades. They are posted outside my office. Please check your scores to make sure they all agree with your records and see me if you have any questions. If you have 90% or more in the class with no drops, you have earned an A in the course and need not take the final! You may also skip the final if you are satisfied with your current grade (be sure to look at the one computed with no drops before you make your decision).
  • 11/22 (2): As announced in class our last quiz will be in class on Friday, December 2. It will cover sections 6.5, 7.1, 7.2, 7.4, and 7.7.
  • 11/22 (3): The homework list has been updated with the rest of the homework for the term.
  • New! 12/13 (1): I apologize for the lack of review sheet. This was one of the things I just did not get to this week. As a hint for what to study, focus on Chapter 3 if anything. That was the hardest chapter, I believe--lots of definitions and abstract theory. You should know how to
    • Prove or disprove that a given set is a vector space, a subspace, a basis
    • Prove or disprove that a set is linearly independent and/or spans
    • Find the rank and nullity of a matrix
    • Find the dimension of a vector space.
Solidify your understanding by doing lots of examples. I hope that helps. Good luck!
  • New! 12/13 (2): The solutions to quiz 5 are now posted above.
