Math 152 Home Page and Selected Course Materials
Instructor: Dr. Katherine Kelm
This is the home page for Math 152, Spring 2006. Click here to go to the syllabus. NOTE: If updates to the syllabus become necessary, I will announce any changes in class. These changes override any information contained in the above syllabus. You are responsible for obtaining the most up-to-date information.
Here you will also find downloadable course documents, such as handouts, worksheets, homework lists, exams, and exam solutions as they become available. Some of these documents are in ".pdf" format. In order to view and print them, you will need a pdf viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. Most Fresno State computers have it. To get a free copy, click here. If you are having difficulty downloading the documents, it sometimes helps to save the files to disk and then open them in your .pdf reader rather than having the browser open them for you. Please let me know if you have any trouble reading them.

  • 1/18 (1): This site is still under construction. Watch this space for periodic updates throughout the course.
  • 1/18 (2): The secret quote for the course is, "Mathematics is not the science of numbers and computations, but rather the tool of abstraction, generalization, and proof."
  • 1/20 (1): The (partial) homework list is now available. Sets will be added as they become available. WeBWorK should also now be up and running. You should log in as soon as possible to make sure your account is working correctly. Please see the syllabus and homework list for more details. If you have not received an email from me (check your @csufresno.edu address), please contact me as soon as possible.
  • 1/20 (2): This web site and all links should now be up and running. If you find errors or links not working, please let me know.
  • 1/23: As mentioned in class our first quiz will be this Friday during the last 15-20 minutes of class. It will cover sections 1.1 through 1.3.
  • 2/6 (1): The Homework List has been updated with current deadlines.
  • 2/6 (2): The solutions to quiz 1 are now available above. Please look them over and see me if you have any questions or concerns.

  • 2/16 (1): The Homework List has been updated with current deadlines.
  • 2/16 (2): As announced in class (and on the syllabus) we are having our first MIDTERM in class on Friday, February 24. It will cover sections 1.1-3.4 (except for those sections we skipped). Again, Monday is a holiday, so it is not too early to begin reviewing for the exam!
  • 2/16 (3): The solutions to the first two quizzes are available above, along with a collection of practice problems for the midterm. Please go over them as soon as possible, so you have time to fix any problems and/or get help well before the exam.
  • 3/6 (1): The Homework List has been updated with current deadlines.
  • 3/6 (2): As mentioned in class we are having our next quiz this Friday. It will cover sections 3.5, 3.6, 3.8, and 4.4. You will be provided with the formula . Of course, it is up to you to know how to use it!
  • 3/12: The Homework List has been updated with current deadlines.
  • 3/24: The homework for next week is section 5.3. Please note that due to the Cesar Chavez holiday next week, paper homework will be due on Wednesday, March 29 at 4:00pm. Please see the updated homework list for details.
  • 4/2 (1): As announced in class (and on the syllabus) we are having our second MIDTERM in class on Friday, April 7. It will cover sections 3.5-5.5 (except for those sections we skipped). There is a review sheet available above.
  • 4/2 (2): Unfortunately there were no WeBWorK problems available relevant to section 5.5. Happily for you, this means no homework is due this week! However, you would be advised (nay, urged--begged!) to complete the paper homework for section 5.5, and as many of the warmup problems as you can, so that you will be adequately prepared for the exam. Please see the Homework List for details.
  • 4/7: The Homework List has been updated with current deadlines. Have a great spring break!
  • 4/22 (1): The Homework List has been updated with current deadlines.
  • 4/22 (2): My office hours on Monday, April 24 are cancelled. Sorry for any inconvenience. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to email me.

  • 4/30 (1): The Homework List has been updated -- all due dates are now listed.
  • 4/30 (2): If you are planning to opt out of the final exam (please see the grading policy in the syllabus for details), and you are unsure of your class standing, feel free to inquire (see me or send email) at the end of this week, when all homework grades are finalized, to confirm your percentage.
  • 4/30 (3): In an effort to ensure academic integrity and security, I will be checking student ID's. You must present your photo ID to me sometime before or at the final exam. I will not post a grade for you until your ID has been verified, so it would be a good idea to take care of this as soon as possible.
  • New! 5/11 (1): As mentioned in class, I am working on a collection of practice problems for the final, which will hopefully be available soon. The final exam is comprehensive; however, for the material prior to Chapter 6 it will focus more on concepts of overall importance from the course, rather than tiny details. For Chapters 6 and 7, you will be expected to execute problems at the level of a midterm.
  • New! 5/11 (2): As announced in class, my consultation hours will be held in our regular classroom, at the regular class time, tomorrow. I hope to see you all in S 141 from 2:00-3:05 on Friday, May 12. Good luck studying for the final!
  • New! 5/11 (3): I will be holding office hours on Tuesday, May 16 from 10:00am to 1:15pm (the day before the final exam). Please come and bring your questions!
  • New! 5/11 (4): If you have not yet verified your ID with me, please do so as soon as possible. Even if you elect not to take the final, I must verify your ID before I will process your final grade.
  • New! 5/11 (5): I have greatly enjoyed our class! You have all worked very hard and learned a lot. Thank you for what has been a very positive experience for me. I hope it was as positive for you. All the very best on your final exams and in the future!
