#2-Informative Speech
I. Introduction
1. I am going to give you two scenarios.
2. Feng Shui is a design strategy that not very many people are aware of.
3. I’m going to try and help all of you become more aware of it by explaining what Feng Shui is, how Yin and Yang apply to it, and about the five types of energy that help structure this design philosophy.
4. I decided to choose Feng Shui for my topic because I am in my second year of the interior design program here and this is one of the many design tactics that we study and practice when we design a home, an office building, or whatever.
II. Body
1. What is Feng Shui?
a) According to Gill Hale, author of The Practical Encyclopedia of Feng Shui, the Chinese have a saying, “First, luck; second, destiny; third, Feng Shui; fourth, virtues; fifth, education”.
b) So what is it? Hale says what it is.
c) Why use it?
2. How Yin and Yang apply.
a) Yin and Yang are the positive and negative forces that work together to form energy.
b) So although they represent everything opposite to each other, they also depend on each other.
3. There are three types of energy that help structure this design philosophy: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water.
a) In different combinations the elements can either help or hurt one another.
b) These are what these elements are associated with.
III. Conclusion
1. So now, if you didn’t know before, you know what Feng Shui is, how Yin and Yang apply to it, and the five types of energy that structure the whole idea.
2. So when you are older and are getting ready to either buy or design your house, you can look back and know that there is more than one way to go about it.
