Group Movie Assignment

In groups you will present concepts from the textbook utilizing an assigned movie. The purpose of this assignment is to allow students to interact with each other and discover group process. Students also have the opportunity to highlight areas in the text and “teach” the class.

Step 1: Once you are placed in assigned groups you will look over a list of movies. The instructor will indicate your three choices. As a group, decide which movie your group will watch for this project. Give the title to the instructor.

Step 2: As a group – watch the movie. It is best if all of you can watch the movie at the same time, if this is not possible try to at least group up into groups or dyads for the viewing.

Step 3: Once your group has watched the movie – use your textbooks to find concepts. I will try to give you some time in class to work on the concepts your group has selected.  Each group must present a minimum of 1 concept per student. Then students will construct individual outlines on their concept. This outline will follow the same format as the self concept outlines but will have sources. A reference page with four sources must be attached.

Step 4: Create a handout for the class with the concepts, definitions and 1 possible test question per speaker on the content of your presentation. The presentation should include the answers – do not point out the answers just present the material in a way that the audience should be able to answer the questions on your handout. If all else fails students should be able to find the answers in their textbook. Make enough copies for everyone including the instructor. (Test questions will be used on the final exam)

Step 5: Decide how you will present the material – remember you must show at least two clips from the movie. The movie clips may show what “not” to do or they may just show a good example of what someone “should” do. Each member MUST present an equal amount of time.  The individual time limits are 5 to 8 minutes each. As a group you will have plenty of time to present the material. Plan your presentation so that it is creative and informative for the audience. Remember you are the teachers!!

Step 6: Write up a peer evaluation of each member in your group List each persons name and give them a score 1 to 10, with 10 being best.  Then tell me in 2 to 3 sentences why they are getting the score. Everyone in the group could get a 10 or everyone in the group could get a 3 – the score is totally up to you.

Graded Criteria:

Individual Presentation 100 points

Group Presentation 50 points

Group Handout 10 points

Peer Evaluation 30 points

Individual Outline 20 points

Reference page 10 points

Please Note I will NOT accept peer evaluations late!
