Informative Speech Outline
I. Introduction
a. If I told you that this one little bulb could pay for itself in two months time, and then pay you to use it, would you believe me?
b. In my speech I will explain two programs that the federal government and state government have put into effect in order for you, the consumer, to save money.
c. I will cover the EnergyStar Program, the Flex Your Power campaign, and what your energy company is doing to lower your bills.
d. Through my job, I have become the EnergyStar and Flex Your Power representative for our store.
II. Body
a. The EnergyStar Program is a federal government program that has been in effect since 1992.
i. The EnergyStar Program is voluntary labeling program designed to identify and promote energy-efficient products.
ii. Throughout the 1990’s, the EnergyStar Program has gained potential.
iii. The EnergyStar label is now on major appliances, office equipment, lighting, home electronics, and more.
b. The Flex Your Power campaign was the response to California’s 2001-2002 energy crises.
i. In the summer of 2001, the Flex Your Power campaign came out in full force.
ii. The campaign included a huge media campaign that stretched over television and radio.
iii. The State of California has long been recognized as a leader in promoting energy efficiency, making the most significant and sustained investment in energy efficiency of any state in the nation.
c. Just some statistics about the Flex Your Power campaign.
i. During the summer of 2001, California reduced energy consumption at peak by as much as 14%.
ii. One-third of the State's commercial customers and 33% of residents cut energy use by at least 20%.
iii. California's per capita energy use fell to the lowest of all industrialized nations.
iv. If California were a nation, it would have surpassed Japan's impressive energy efficiency record in 2001.
d. What your energy company is doing to lower your bills.
i. Both PG&E and SoCal Edison offer incentives to their customers in the form of rebates.
ii. These rebates can range anywhere between $25 and $100 per product.
III. Conclusion
a. In conclusion, the EnergyStar Program and the Flex Your Power campaign have increased consumer awareness, and decreased the high demand of energy.
b. So next time you see the star, pick it up because it’s like putting cash in your pocket.
