Birthday Celebration & Reception
February 12, 2009
Thursday the 12th of February, 2009 is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, and "Darwin Day" worldwide. CSU Fresno is delighted to join in with the global celebration of his birth, and the 150th anniversary of the publication of “On the Origin of Species …” Darwin’s genius in originating the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection remains one of the greatest intellectual achievements of the past 200 years.
In celebration, the newly formed Consortium for Evolutionary Studies will host a reception and discussion in the Downing Planetarium Museum on the CSU Fresno campus. The consortium involves faculty and students from multiple colleges and departments at CSU Fresno, and is dedicated to the promotion of science and reason. This occasion will allow all interested parties to reflect on Darwin, discuss the continued significance of his ideas, and plan for further events throughout the year. Refreshments will be served, and the event is open to all.
