I.S. Components

Compare an ATM with an alarm clock. Obviously, they perform different functions. But, at a higher level of abstraction, the information systems residing in (and controlling) each, have essentially the same components, just like a human being and a dog are two different species, and yet have many components in common: heart, brain, stomach, eyes, blood, etc.

  1. What components do an ATM and an alarm clock have in common, as information systems, that are also shared by all other information systems? List all of these components/functions.
  2. Based on your analysis above, describe an information system from your work environment with which you are familiar as its user, developer, or purchaser.
