Math 71/90, Fall 2004 Homework List

It is very important that you practice doing as many problems as you can. It is not enough to understand the concepts; you must be good at executing them or you will run out of time on exams. Therefore, I have prepared a list of warm-up or study problems for most sections. You do not have to turn the warm-up problems in, but you should do as many of them as you need to in order to feel comfortable with each concept.

You should follow the homework policy outlined in the syllabus for the problems to be turned in. In particular, please remember to follow all the format rules. I will announce in class when the problems from each section will be due and will update this list online from time to time.

Please note that a homework assignment may consist of problems from both Stewart and Ebersole. Be sure to do the correct problems from each text, and turn them in together. All problems due on the same day should be stapled together in one packet.

* Bonus problem (extra credit only)

** This problem is difficult to understand. It is not a bonus problem! Read the problem VERY slowly and carefully, many times, as you would a difficult poem. Struggle with it for a while! The book does help you through it -- just read what it says with a pencil in your hand, and try to write down as much as possible. Talking it out with your study group will also help.

*** Study the notes from Section 3.6 (Stewart) before trying this one.
