Old News - March
  • 3/5 (1): The homework for this week is sections 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3. Please see the updated homework list for details.
  • 3/5 (2): The solutions to Quiz 5 are now available above.
  • 3/5 (3): I have compiled everyone's scores to date (through Quiz 4) and will be passing out a summary sheet for each student in class. Please check your scores against your records. Very rarely, I or my grader will sometimes miss a score or record the wrong score. If you have any questions or concerns, or believe there is an error, please contact me right away so it can be corrected.
  • 3/12: The homework for this week is sections 10.1 and 10.2. Please see the updated homework list for details.
  • 3/18 (1): The solutions to Quizzes 6 and 7 are now available above.
  • 3/18 (2): The homework for this week is sections 10.3 and 11.1. There is no paper homework due this week because of the MIDTERM on Friday (see below). Also please note that due to the Cesar Chavez holiday next week, paper homework will be due on Wednesday, March 29 at 4:00pm. Please see the updated homework list for details.
  • 3/18 (3): As you hopefully know by now, we are having our second MIDTERM in class this Friday, March 24. It will cover sections 7.4 through 11.1, except the sections and chapters we skipped. You should focus especially on chapters 8 and 10, though you should review partial fractions (section 7.4) and improper integrals (section 7.8). From section 11.1 you should know how to find a non-recursive formula for the nth term of a sequence.
  • 3/18 (4): There is a collection of practice problems for the midterm above. Solutions will be available soon. As usual, you are urged to complete the practice problems under test conditions as much as possible, to prepare you for the exam.
  • 3/18 (5): The worksheets and handouts we have had so far in the class are now available above, including the most recent one on sequences. Please download and review them if you have lost your copy.
  • 3/18 (6): Our problem session this week will be on Thursday from 4-6pm in PB 390. This is to allow extra time for questions before the exam. As usual, you are urged to study the solutions to the practice problems when they become available before the problem session. That way you can figure out as much on your own as possible, and we will have time for more questions. Hope to see you all there!
  • 3/20: As announced in class, there were several typos in the practice midterm. Sorry about that! They have now been fixed, so you can download the corrected version. The solutions are now also available above. I apologize in advance for any more errors. Please study the solutions carefully. I hope to see you all at the problem session this Thursday. Best of luck studying for the midterm!
  • 3/24 (1): Well, as predicted, there were plenty of errors in the solutions to the practice midterm. Sorry again about that! I was obviously typing really fast and not checking my work. Everything to my knowledge has now been corrected. At least it will help when you are studying for the final! If you find any more errors or problems, please let me know.

Special note to those students who were at the problem session on Thursday: I was talking about "similar trapezoids" in relation to Work and Answer #3. Everything I said along those lines was complete nonsense! The only way for two trapezoids to be similar is for their angles to be the same and for their heights and widths to be in the same ratio. The trapezoids we were looking at are not similar, so what we said does not apply.

  • 3/24 (2): As was discovered in class, there was also an error in the Sequences worksheet handed out in class. The corrected worksheet is now available for download above. Hopefully my brain will be working better next week!
