Math 76 Home Page and Selected Course Materials
Instructor: Dr. Katherine Kelm
This is the home page for Math 76, spring 2006. Click here to go to the syllabus. NOTE: If updates to the syllabus become necessary, I will announce any changes in class. These changes override any information contained in the above syllabus. You are responsible for obtaining the most up-to-date information.
Here you will also find downloadable course documents, such as handouts, worksheets, homework lists, exams, and exam solutions as they become available. Some of these documents are in ".pdf" format. In order to view and print them, you will need a pdf viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. Most Fresno State computers have it. To get a free copy, click here. If you are having difficulty downloading the documents, it sometimes helps to save the files to disk and then open them in your .pdf reader rather than having the browser open them for you. Please let me know if you have any trouble reading them.

News and Notes -- Last update 5/15 [Skip to new postings]

  • Old News - January/February
  • Old News - March
  • 4/2: The homework for this week is sections 11.2-11.4. Please see the updated homework list for details.
  • 4/7: The homework for the week after spring break is sections 11.5-11.7, though there is no WeBWorK assignment for 11.7 (as you will see, 11.7 is a review of the tests learned in sections 11.2-11.6). Please see the updated homework list for details.
  • 4/22 (1): The homework for this week is sections 11.8 and 11.9. Please see the updated homework list for details.
  • 4/22 (2): My office hours on Monday, April 24 are cancelled. Sorry for any inconvenience. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to email me.
  • 4/22 (3): LOCATION CHANGE! This week only: this Thursday's problem session will be in S2 107 (two doors down from the Integration Bee!) at the regular time, 5-6pm.
  • 4/24 (1): There is a Mathematica lab now available on the computers in S2 321. There may be one or two other labs also available soon. They are due on Wednesday, May 10 (the last day of classes) and will be worth the same as one WeBWorK assignment. You will need to visit the lab sometime in the next couple weeks to do the lab(s). For help getting started, follow this link to Mathematica FAQ's.
  • 4/24 (2): The solutions to quizzes 8 and 9 are now available above. Please go over any problems you missed and see me if you have any questions.
  • 4/30 (1): The homework for this week is WeBWorK only, due to our upcoming MIDTERM on Friday. Next week (the last week of classes), there is no WeBWorK assignment, only paper homework -- but please note that it will be due on Wednesday, May 10, the last day of class. Please see the updated homework list for details.
  • 4/30 (2): updated As mentioned above we are having our third and last MIDTERM this Friday, May 5. It will cover sections 11.2-11.10. There is a collection of practice problems posted above; solutions available soon.
  • 4/30 (3): In an effort to ensure academic integrity and security, I will be checking student ID's. You must present your photo ID to me sometime before or at the final exam. I will not post a grade for you until your ID has been verified, so it would be a good idea to take care of this as soon as possible.
  • 4/30 (4): The solutions to quiz 10 are now available above.
  • 5/3: updated There is a complete set of solutions to the practice problems above. I have double-checked my work on the solutions and have corrected a few typos and other errors that were present in the first version available earlier today. Hopefully I found all of them! I hope to see you all at tomorrow's problem session, from 2:00 to 3:30 in PB 390. Good luck on the exam!
  • New! 5/11 (1): The solutions to Midterm III are now available above. Please go over any problems you missed and see me if you have any questions.
  • New! 5/11 (2): As mentioned in class, I am working on a collection of practice problems for the final, which will hopefully be available soon. The final exam is comprehensive; however, it will focus more on concepts of overall importance from the course, rather than tiny details. One exception is section 11.11. Since you have not yet been tested on this section, you will be expected to execute problems on binomial series at the level of a midterm.
  • New! 5/11 (3): As announced in class, my consultation hours will be held in our regular classroom, at the regular class time, tomorrow. I hope to see you all in S 139 from 11:45 to 12:50 on Friday, May 12. Good luck studying for the final!
  • New! 5/11 (4): I will be holding office hours on Tuesday, May 16 from 10:00am to 1:15pm (the day before the final exam). Please come and bring your questions!
  • New! 5/11 (5): If you have not yet verified your ID with me, please do so as soon as possible. Even if you elect not to take the final, I must verify your ID before I will process your final grade. (The only exception is if you were enrolled in my Math 75 class last term -- in that case I checked your ID in the fall and that is fine.)
  • New! 5/11 (6): I have greatly enjoyed our class! You have all worked very hard and learned a lot. Thank you for what has been a very positive experience for me. I hope it was as positive for you. All the very best on your final exams and in the future!
  • New! 5/13: There is now a collection of practice problems for the final exam available above. There are answers, but not complete solutions, and I have not proofread them very carefully! So use them at your own risk. Good luck on the final!
  • New! 5/14: After reviewing the practice problems, I have discovered two errors, in Multiple Choice #11 and 16. They have now been corrected.
  • New! 5/15: Oops -- I found another error in the solutions, on Work and Answer #11. It has now been corrected.
