Math 171. Intermediate Mathematical Analysis I.   Spring 2005.

Announcement

The department needs volunteers for the Math Field Day on Saturday, April 16, 2005. See flyer for more information.

In addition to breakfast, lunch, experience, and appreciation from math faculty mentioned in the flyer, by participating you will earn the right to retake one of the tests given in Math 171 this spring (you can choose which test you want to retake). If you do better the second time, your score will be substituted. If you do worse, your score will not be changed. To ensure that your name apears in the Math Field Day booklet please notify me by March 15th. You may still participate if you decide after Math 15th, however, your name will not appear in the booklet then (because the booklets have to be ordered in advance).

Those who are not available on that Saturday can earn the right to retake one test by completing an extra assignment (but note that you will not get any points for the assignment itself). The assignment will consist of a list of problems given to participants of the Math Field Day (so, these problems are given to high school students, but they are harder than most problems usually done in high school). More precisely, I will choose those problems that have something to do with our class (for example, equations and inequalities involving absolute value). You will have about one week to complete the assignment (and it probably will take you a few hours to do it) and you will have to get a high score on it (to be determined later, when the list of problems is available).

When you can retake a test: on Friday, May 13, from 8:00 - 9:05 AM, in our regular classroom
