Financial Support from NSF HSI Grant per year from 2024 to 2027:

Tuition coverage for up to 4 community college students per fall semester: $1240/student;
Tuition coverage for 1 community college student per spring semester: $1240/student;
Tuition coverage for 16 students per summer for optional summer course for summer research: $930/student;
Full support for 8 students per summer: $5,700/student;
Half support for 8 students per summer: $2,850/student.

Application to Work on ATLAS Experiment with NSF HSI Grant:

Take online Phys 163 (Introduction to Particle Physics) offered at Fresno State during fall semester by Prof. Yongsheng Gao. This online course is open to students from all 20 CSU NUPAC campuses through CSU Fully Online and offered on regular basis every fall semester to CSU NUPAC campuses. For students from Madera Community College, Modesto Junior College, and Santa Rosa Junior College, please contact the liaison faculty of these colleges in NSF HSI Poster about how to enroll in online PHYS 163.

Curriculum Vitae (CV). Please include all of your research experience and detailed skills in computing, hardware, software, and physics.

Proof of your U.S. citizenship (scan of your US passport or scan of your US birth certificate if you do not have US passport yet) or permanent residence (scan of your US permanent residence card)

Official and up-to-date E-transcript(s). If you are a graduate student, your official undergraduate transcript, together with your current and up-do-date official transcript for graduate studies, are required. Please arrange E-transcript(s) to be sent to Prof. Yongsheng Gao by the 12/15 deadline.

The student will be notified by early January if he/she is selected to work on ATLAS experiment with NSF HSI support for the following summer. The students will be selected based on their performance in the online PHYS 163, GPA, recommendations letters, their research experience/skills, etc. Because the online course provides the students with background knowledge for them to work on ATLAS research, doing well in the course will be very important. When our students work on ATLAS experiment, they will be working closely with ATLAS physicists from top research institutions. Therefore our students will be evaluated and compared to students from top research institutions. It is essential that every student we send to work on ATLAS experiment will do well in his/her ATLAS research project so our students will be welcomed by ATLAS collaboration in the future.
