Math 152 Home Page and Selected Course Materials (celtic knot)
Instructor: Dr. Katherine Kelm
This is the home page for Math 152, Spring 2009. You should check this page often for announcements (see News and Notes, below). Be sure to click the Refresh or Reload button on your browser to make sure you are getting the most recent version of the page.

NOTE. I do not anticipate making changes to the syllabus. However, if updates to the syllabus do become necessary, I will announce them in class. These changes override any information contained in the online syllabus. Any policy change which overrides the print syllabus you received the first week of class will be printed and handed out in class per University policy. You are responsible for obtaining the most up-to-date information.

Below you will also find downloadable course documents, such as handouts, worksheets, homework lists, and practice exam solutions as they become available. Some of these documents are in ".pdf" format. In order to view and print them, you will need a pdf viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. Most Fresno State computers have it. To get a free copy, click here. If you are having difficulty downloading the documents, it sometimes helps to save the files to disk and then open them in your .pdf reader rather than having the browser open them for you. Please let me know if you have any trouble reading them.

    1. New item for download, available above under Exams and Practice Exams: a collection of practice problems for the upcoming midterm. I will try to type solutions soon, but no guarantees -- my priority is to make sure the actual exam is complete, fair, and error-free! If you are not sure how to do a problem, be sure to ask.
    2. A reminder that our problem session this week will be longer to give us extra time to go over problems before the test. It will be from 2:15 to 3:45pm. Please come and bring your questions!
    3. Do you get nervous before exams? Your first line of defense is to be as well-prepared as possible. The following suggestions may help:
      1. Practice problems, including proofs, from all the sections many times, until you reach a high level of accuracy and feel completely comfortable.
      2. Talk over difficult problems and concepts with your study group.
      3. Of course, you should not hesitate to see me (or email me) with any questions. If possible, come to problem session this week (see above).
With continued study and practice everyone in our class is capable of doing well on the exam. I will be rooting for all of you! Good luck!

    1. New item for download, available above under Exams and Practice Exams: A practice final.
    2. As mentioned in class and on the syllabus, in order to ensure the academic integrity of this course, I will be checking your student ID at or before the final exam. If you have not already done so, please bring it to me before the final exam so you do not have to worry about it on the day. If you decide to skip the final exam, you will still need to bring your ID to me before you start your summer break! Your grade for this course will not be processed until I have verified your ID. The only exception will be if you earn an F for the course. Thank you for your cooperation.
    3. A reminder that I will be holding consultation hours on Friday from 1:00-2:05 in our regular classroom. Hope to see you there! In the event that not many students show up, I may elect to move to my office. If you don't see anyone there at the above time, please try my office (PB 346)!
    4. I will hold office hours on Monday morning from 10:00-12:00, in case you have any last questions or still need to show me your ID.
    5. I am available for questions via email as well. Please do not hesitate to send email if you have any questions or concerns.
    6. I have very much enjoyed our class! I hope you all have a great summer, and that you will stop by and visit from time to time in the semesters ahead.
